Chief aids and staff for the President and White House in general do many different tasks.  The President sets the tone and style of the White House.  Some are more casual with their staff, while others are more strict.  Likewise, some Presidents interact with a great number of their staff, while others are directly involved with only a close circle of staff and advisors.
